RC 45 "Spotlight" - Volume 3, Issue 4 - Sept., 2014

FROM YOUR PRESIDENT:
I'd like to welcome the 2014 class of retirees to the ranks of NYSUT RC 45. You are in for a life-changing experience. Come September, there will be no need to set an alarm clock for some ridiculously early hour unless you are getting up to go have fun. You will now be able to get to that pile of books you have collected over the years that you have not had time to read. No longer will you need to spend your "free time" reading students' work. Cold coffee and lunch periods that are too short to finish eating in will become a distant memory, as will faculty meetings and lesson plans. You will be able to travel in off-peak times which are less expensive, much less crowded and more rewarding. You will be able to take your time in all you do. Jobs that you start can be left until tomorrow if something better comes along. You will have the time to get back to them...

The Friedrichs vs. CTA case asks the court to decide whether public sector unions may conCnue to charge nonmembers a fee equal to the cost of represenCng them to their employer...

RC 45 "Spotlight" - Volume 4, Issue 1 March, 2015

FROM YOUR PRESIDENT:
After listening to, and then reading Governor Cuomo’s State of the State one should became concerned about the future and quality of public education in New York State. But when one reads the current information regarding the quality of education in our state it is becomes clear that the vast majority of our public schools are doing an outstanding job of educating the children of our state. Each year a majority of our students graduate High School and go into the work force or onto some form of higher education. Generally when students struggle to or do not complete their education, it is directly correlated to poverty and/or societal problems that negatively affect teaching and learning...
